    District (BO) Qualifications: Teacher, Social Worker, Psychologist, LDTC. Minimum of a Master's Degree with required training. Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis. Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or resident alien status.
    Essential Duties: The Behaviorist has the duties and responsibilities commonly associated with this position, including (but not limited to) the following, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the framework of the general laws of New Jersey, the regulations of the NJ State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the Nutley School District, and the terms of the contract with the Nutley Education Association, with all of which he/she is expected to be familiar. As well, the position is responsible for duties commonly associated with communication positions, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority.
    General Duties and Responsibilities:
    To work with teachers, case managers, staff, and parents in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate behavioral intervention plans for special education students with the following:
    • Assisting staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs to enhance a student's communication, social, adaptive, and academic skills
    • Developing and evaluating programs implemented by staff to enhance a student's positive behaviors
    • Developing and modeling effective instructional strategies for staff
    • Developing and training staff in effective data collection and management systems
    • Attending IEP team meetings and offering appropriate strategies and goals based on functional assessment of the student
    • Developing and implementing parent training activities based on applied behavior analysis principles
    • Assisting in the development of parent training activities to be delivered by staff in the student's home, and monitoring the staff implementing the program
    • Assisting in developing transition plans that provide opportunities to practice new skills in alternative settings, and increase generalization of skills
    • Developing guidelines for implementing student's behavior programs
    • Using data-based decision making to continually improve our programs
    • Uphold and enforce school, administrative, board, and state rules, regulations and policies.
    • Communicating with parents and school personnel to discuss pupil progress when necessary, at discretion of building administration.
    • Conducting parent conferences in accordance with the individual school policy.
    • Attending to required records, reports, and other routine matters in an appropriate and punctual manner in accordance to code timelines.
    • Participating in curriculum and other developmental programs as assigned.
    • Maintaining standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive school and classroom environment.
    • Developing FBA plans and instructional materials to adapt to the curriculum.
    • Will be expected to attend school related night activities when necessary and according to school policy/contract.
    • Identifying pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve learning, social, and attitude problems.
    • Scheduling children for instructional purposes or activities to enhance pupil performance and provide for individualized needs.
    • Will assume responsibility for any other duties or responsibilities assigned by the Director of Special Services.
    • Uphold and enforce school, administrative, board, and state rules, regulations and policies.
    • Possess training in non-violent crisis intervention.
    Evaluation of Performance: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education Policy.
    Additional Responsibilities: Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal or superintendent may assign or delegate.
    Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on supervision and evaluation.
    Computer Skills: Proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position.
